Last Thursday night we went to the MGM Grand to see "KA", one of Vegas' Cirque Du Soleil shows. KA's title is inspired by the ancient Egyptian belief that every human being has a spiritual duplicate that accompanies them throughout life and into the next.
The story is about a royal twin brother and sister who are captured and separated in an attack on a joyous festivity being held in their honor. The heroes are thrown into perilous situation in a variety of landscapes - a getaway ship that sinks in tempestuous seas, a sandy beach that reveals unforgettable creatures, an ingenious flying machine that provides escape and steep mountains and forests that impede progress until the twins can be reunited, end the war and again live in peace.
This enigmatic story is told with the help of remarkable special effects, including versatile stages that sink and rise, push forward and pull back and change to a near vertical position. Gravity-defying acrobatic feats, exciting martial arts, state-of-the-art puppetry, video projections, fog effects and pyrotechnics create a spellbinding tale.
This was the 2nd "Cirque" show we've been to and certainly lives up to its reputation of being one of the best. First of all, the theater itself was was amazing. Before the show starts you are entertained by roaming performers and a constant series of enormous "fireballs" erupting from the abyss that is the stage. Everything builds from there, the settings, costumes, acrobatics and special effects are all superb. Though we both thought the storyline was a little hard to follow, the effects were really quite unbelievable.
