We've waited a long time for this moment. The Boston Celtics taking on the LA Lakers in probably the biggest basketball match for 21 years, since they last squared up in the NBA Finals, in fact. And what a game it was. After overcoming an early LA lead, the Celtics ended the first period in the lead. Then LA came back and took over the lead by 5 points at the half. Ralleying in the third period, the Celtics regained the lead. It was then back and forth till the end.
Probably the loudest roar of the game was for the Lazarus like return of captain and cult figure Paul Pierce when he returned, to the Rocky theme tune, in the third quarter after being stretchered off with what appeared to be a career-ending knee injury earlier in the quarter.
If basketball occasionally pales - it didn't tonight. Watching as the Celtics recover to win 98-88, was some of the most compelling sport I have witnessed this year.
