Daily Diary Notes - "June"

06/26/2009 - Connie has been staying in most mornings watching coverage of Wimbleton; I've been going to the pool and catching up on some reading. Today was the birthday of a friend of ours, so we called and took him and his mother out to lunch. We went to Ventano's, an Italian restaurant that we have been to several times and had a very nice lunch. After lunch we went back to their house for some wine and conversation. It was a nice break from the normal routine.

06/25/2009 - Today I finished a book I've been reading entitled, "The Terrorist Watch" by Ronald Kessler. Though I normally don't read non-fiction, it was an excellent book on the war on terror and how the FBI, CIA are working on preserving our freedom. After that we went shopping for some clothes at Khol's. We both came away very dissappointed. We either couldn't find anything that we liked or if we did, it was the wrong size. Everything in the store was made in some third world country. Bad Experience.

06/21/2009 - We stayed home all day and watched the U.S. Open. Needless to say, we were disappointed in Tiger Wood's performance. It certainly was nothing like two weeks ago at the Bay Hill tournament where he came back from a seven shot deficit to win it. Due to the rain that they have had all week, the course is saturated with water and play has been stopped more than once. It looks like it won't be over until Monday or Tuesday.

06/19/2009 - After a fairly relaxing day we went to GVR for a little gaming. We had dinner at Subway and then headed to the eerson Eents Center in downtown Henderson for a free concert. A Dueling Pianos concert. They played and sang a variety of songs from various performers.

06/17/2009 - After a very long wait on Netflix, we finally got to see the movie, "Marley and Me". It was actually much better than we thought it was going to be and really enjoyed it.

06/16/2009 - Today we decided to go to GVR for a free lunch buffet and a little slot and poker action. As we were about to leave, someone approched us and asked if we would be willing to play and review some new slot machines. We said why not! About an hour later, after playing the machine for about 15 minute and providing our review and critique, the gave up both $20 cash for our time. What a deal.

06/15/2009 - Nothing new on our missing ex-neighbors. Due to a very vague note that was found by the police in their apartment, their brother had the thought that they might have returned to Hawaii. He suggested this to the police and suggested that maybe they search the airport for their missing car. The police said "we don't do that". As a result of that, I had their brother email me the information on the missing car and I went to the airport today and performed a search of the Long Term parking area and the Economy Parking areas for their car. Nothing.

06/12/2009 - Guess this was "movie week" for us. Today we went to another movie over at the South Point casino, "The Taking of Pelham 123" with Denzel Washington and John Travolta. As we are both easily entertained and like any movie that provides a lot of action, we both thought is was pretty good.

06/10/2009 - Today we went to lunch at the Season's Buffet at the Silverton Casino. We think it is one of the better buffets around and for only $5 on Wednesdays (Senior Day) it is a real bargain for what you get. Afterward we went to the South Point casino to see the movie, "Angels and Demons" with Tom Hanks. We had heard mixed reviews on it, however both enjoyed it more than we thought we would. We even liked it better than the Da Vinci Code. Ron Howard was the producer and he never seems to disappoint us.

06/08/2009 - After sitting around the pool in the morning, we went out to lunch at Ventano's Italian restaurent with our neighbor friend Marc. Had a great lunch and brought home enough for dinner tomorrow night. We then headed to the library to return and pick up some new reading material. Marc found three books on their old books rack for $3.00.

We then went to the Clark County Heritage Museum over on Boulder Hwy. We were all impressed by the overall size of the museum, especially considering the outside grounds with included six restored houses and buildings going back to the '20's and '30's. There was a lot of information and history on the early days of Nevada and Las Vegas and made for an educational and interesting afternoon.

06/06/2009 - Spent most of the day with Sue and Nancy's brother Art Eustance and his wife Kathy. After they met with the funeral home they came over and talked for a while and then treated us to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory as thanks for all that we had done for them over the past couple of days. After a lovely meal, I turned over the apartment keys to them and they then went back to do some cleaning up.

06/05/2009 - This day certainly turned out to be one of the strangest and most exhausting we've ever experienced. I received an email this morning from relatives of some people who used to be our neighbors that we helped move last December, noting that the two sisters had contacted another family member several days ago saying that their mom had died, but had then failed to make any further contact. They asked us if we had heard anything from them in the past week. Without going into a long and complicated story, suffice it to say that we went to their apartment only to find their mother lying dead in her bed. It was obvious that she had been dead for nearly a week, and the two daughters, who had been living with her, hadn't been seen by any neighbors for three days. We then spent most of the remainder of the day back and forth on the phone with family and with the police. Needless to say we ended up really spent by the end of the day. The brother who contacted us, and his wife, are coming to town from California tomorrow. We are all still hopeful that the two sisters will show up o.k. somewhere, but it doesn't look encouraging.

06/01/2009 - Went to the pool and then Marc and I went out an shot some pool. Neither of us did very well and pretty much came out even on games.
