SYNOPSIS: Jeff Bridges stars as the richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero country singer Bad Blake. Kind of a Willie Nelson character, Bad Blake is a broken-down, alcoholic, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages and far too many years on the road . And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of a journalist named Jean (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal), who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles with his alcohol addiction down a long road toward redemption, he learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man’s crazy heart.
REVIEW: Probably the only reason we went to this movie was because of all the hype given to the performance of Jeff Bridges, of which he has already received several nominations and awards. After seeing it, we must admit that they were all well deserved. His on-screen body language and demeanor of a person who has had years of wear and tear inflicted upon him is surperb. So much so that after a while you can actually begin to feel his pain. It is certainly deserving of an Oscar. I thought the screen play was a little weak and that the movie was a little slow at times, however, Bridges performance is so good you hardly even notice. We give it a strong [4-1/2 Stars].
