Dining Review - “Gaetano’s Ristorante”

gaetanos2SYNOPSIS: Having been recommended by two of our neighbors, we finally decided to give this restaurant a tryout. Located on S. Eastern Ave in Henderson, this family owned and operated restaurant, specializing in Northern Italian cuisine, welcomes you with wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen the minute you walk in the door. The decor is filled with beautiful artwork, lighting, warm woods and a very attentive staff, which besides Gaetano includes his wife and two sons. This restaurant has received numerous awards including the OpenTable.com "2010 Diners' Choice Winner", 2007 Las Vegas Review "Best Italian Restaurant", 2003 LV Life Epicurean Award for the "Best New Off-Strip Restaurant" and a 2003 and 2008 ZAGOT Zagat "Best 1000 Italian Restaurants in the United States. What else is there to say.

REVIEW: We had two of the evening's specials. We were first served some water and a bread basket accompanied by a dish of olive oil and balsamic for dipping. We each then ordered a glass of wine and waited for our appetizer. For an appetizer we shared a lovely presented, lightly breaded, 4 layered eggplant drizzled with a red sauce, oil and greens and just the right amount of cheese. It was excellent. I had the braised stuffed veal chop that was filiated, stuffed with sausage, sage, seasonings, and sauce, and then baked and served with a cheese risotto. Though a little pricy at $42, it was a huge meal and cooked to perfection. Connie had the lasagna which had thin layers of pasta and just the right combination of cheese and sauce. The portions were way too big for us to even thnk about dessert. Because the total bill was $100 we may have to make this a "special occasion" restaurant, but certainly felt like it was money well spent and look forward to a future visit.
