Dining Review–“Border Grill”

Border Grill
SYNOPSIS: I recently dined here with a friend and was extremely impressed with the quality of the food and service. Stuck near the convention center in the rear of the Mandalay Bay Casino overlooking the Lazy River just off Mandalay Beach, this is a vibrant restaurant serving upscale modern Mexican food. The simple decor with its high ceilings presents a relatively hip, urban cantina setting. In addition, there are two floors of outside patio dining offering the perfect setting for sipping margaritas and savoring a menu of the bold flavors of Mexico while enjoying views of the beach and pool. Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger have been business partners for over 20 years and are the current hands-on owner-operators of both this and the popular and critically acclaimed Border Grill restaurant in Santa Monica. It has received votes in the past as "Best Mexican Restaurant in Las Vegas" and "Best Margaritas".

REVIEW: Unfortunately, my friend and I both had the special of the day, Grilled Steak Tamales, which didn't give us a large variety of food to rate. However, that being said, this simple meal of three large tamales, stuffed with grilled steak pieces that were even cooked medium rare and covered with a heap of green peppers, mushrooms and cheese, surrounded by a lovely enchilada sauce drizzled with sour cream, was outstanding. Judging from what we observed of meals being served around us, I would have to say all the meals served here are quite large. In spite of the fact that the prices are relatively expensive for Mexican fare, each meal is creatively prepared with presentation in mind, and quite large, certainly providing you with your monies worth.
