REVIEW: Gerritsen lives in Maine, in those same dark and spooky Maine woods that are home to Stephen King. Her detailed scenes of forensics pathology are both informed and enriched by the real-life experiences of her career as an M.D. When you add fascinating historic mysteries, a breakneck modern plot, and two generations of fatally attractive heroines who are hunted by a very real serial killer — you end up with a real page-turner. We both give this book [4-1/2 Stars].
SYNOPSIS: THE KEEPSAKE begins with an Egyptian mummy that has been newly discovered in the cellar of a prestigious Boston museum. During the forensics examination, inexplicably, a bullet is discovered in the leg of the "ancient" victim. This sets off a chain reaction where our favorite Gerritsen protagonists — forensics pathologist Dr Maura Isles and Boston police detective Jane Rizzoli — are swept into the path of a killer who knows more about ancient burial practices than even the archaeologists. And more about his intended victims and their loved ones, perhaps, than they even know about themselves.
