Book - Heat Wave SYNOPSIS: Richard Castle is a TV character who plays a novelist researching his next book. He gets background information by tagging along with NYPD detective Kate Beckett. Becket is a no-nonsense homicide detective who finds Castle somewhat annoying, but at times finds a brief sexual spark between them. Castle, a best-selling crime novelist, is starting a new series of crime stories and he is basing the main character, Nikki Heat, on detective Beckett. Heat Wave is the first book in the Nikki Heat series penned by Richard Castle.
One can definitely see the television characters in the book. It is about a writer named Jameson Rook who is tagging along with a homicide team for background information for an article.  The play on words is cute as both the TV name (Castle) and the book name (Rook) are pieces of a chess set. Perhaps in the future the real writer(s) of Heat Wave will reveal themselves.  In the book, Rook and Heat get involved into the murder of a very wealthy man, who as it turns out is flat broke. Then they come upon another murder with clues leading them to the original crime scene. After a major burglary at one of the crime scenes there’s an attempt on Heat’s life which adds to the mystery.

REVIEW: The book is a fun read. I am an avid viewer of the TV show and love the chemistry between Castle and Becket. Interesting enough, Castle’s TV flirtations with Kate Beckett are nowhere near as intense as the relationship between Rook and Heat in the book. I think knowing the characters on the TV show make it more interesting, however I also feel that it would be an exciting and interesting read even for someone who has never seen the TV show. For anyone who likes the TV show it is a definate read. I give it [3.5-Stars]
Heat Wave (Nikki Heat)
