A Daily Diary - "March 2010"

03/31/2010 - I was suppose to go for my CT Scan today, however the scheduler at the urologist's office screwed things up and they didn't have me scheduled for the appointment when I show up at the lab. Had to go back to the doctors office and have then reschedule. I'm now schedule to go on Friday. We went over to the "M" afterward for Connie's loto slot drawing. She had 273 chances to win $55,000. Sorry, no luck today.

03/28/2010 - Had a busy day today. First, we went to Mimis for a 2-1 breakfast that I got for signing Connie up on their website. We then headed up the street to the District at GVR for the Annual Cadillac Show. Saw some really nice cars. Click here for some pictures ... Show Pictures  At 2:00 we then went over to the Henderson Pavilion to hear a free spring Symphony concert. It was a "Young Artist's" concert and featured three kids on violin and three on piano, all who were amazing. One of the performers, Jae Ahn, has written two duets for piano and violin, 24 preludes for piano, and a piano quintet and already played twice with the Henderson Symphony Orchestra on previous occasions. After the concert we went to the "M" and picked up a free gift - a chief's apron. It was the perfect way to celebrate a beautiful sunny afternoon in the mid 70's. Came home and cooked dinner in my new chief's apron and watched some movies and shows on TV.

03/27/2010 - Went to the clubhouse for a free lunch put on by the representatives of DirecTV. We switched over from cable last month and love it. We then headed to the "M" where we both had a loosing day. Had a nice hour and a half phone conversation with my sister in the evening. Watched some shows and hit the sack.

03/26/2010 - We went to Green Valley Ranch today to use a 2-1 buffet coupon. I must say we were somewhat disappointed. It's no wonder the casino is in bankruptcy and on the auction block. Poor service, table not set, food items cold, over cooked and dry, table not cleared between trips, etc. I did win $35 in the poker room; I think Connie lost $20. Went over to the "M" where I picked up another $60. Came home and made meatloaf sandwiches for dinner, watched a Netflix movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and went to bed. Click movie title for our review.

03/24/2010 - The pollen count here is so high, we actually made the national news yesterday. I Never used to have a problem, however the past couple of years it has really affected me; so severe, you would almost think it was the flu. After playing some at the "M" Casino this afternoon, we headed to the Silverado Steakhouse at the Southpoint Casino for dinner. Had a 2-1 entree coupon that saved us $40. This is actually one of my favorite places to eat. They have the best lobster bisque of any place in town. We both had the Filet Oscar. Click here to read the review we previously wrote on this restaurant ... Silverado Steakhouse. Came home and watched a couple of shows on TV and hit the rack.

03/23/2010 - Went to the Urologist today. Had a cystoscopy to check for bladder cancer. The good news is I don't have bladder cancer. The bad news is that it is probably a kidney problem. They are going to set up a CT scan for next week. Just another wait and see.

03/22/2010 - Have had a severe sinus infection for the past several days. Unfortunately, due to the medication the doctor had me on for a possible infection, I have been unable to take any other medications.

03/19/2010 - After our normal morning routine we headed to "M" for some free slot play before heading to the movies at the Southpoint. We saw the movie Green Zone, which in spite of some of the reviews we had read, we though was pretty good. Check out our review here ... Green Zone.
03/18/2010 - I've had a problem urinating blood over the past several days and decided to go to the doctors this morning. After doing a quick check on my urine sample, the doctor said that they did not find a large concentration of white blood cells, which should have been present if I had some kind of infection, and the the most likely cause was probable cancer of the bladder. They referred me to a specialist for more testing and gave me a prescription for some antibiotics in the meantime. The specialist can't see me until the 23rd. Guess we'll just have to wait and see! Christina and her dad came over around 10 am. We reviewed pictures from a few days ago, then went out on the deck where we sat around talking and had lunch.
After lunch we took them to the cactus garden at Ethel M's Chocolate factory and then drove over to the Hoover Dam. We signed up for a tour which took us down 560 feet into the generator room at the base of the dam. We had a great guide and really enjoyed it. We then went over to the "M" and had their dinner buffet, which was enjoyed by all. It was after 8 pm by the time we got home and Connie and I were pretty worn out. My brother Tommy called and we talked for nearly an hour, watched a TV show and went to bed. LONG DAY.

03/17/2010 - St. Patrick's Day. Connie stayed home again while I went to the "M" to see if I could win any of the special bonus hand jackpots they were offering for St. Patty's Day. It ended up being a long day as I got there around noontime and didn't get home untill after ten PM. The good news was that I finally hit a small jackpot towards the end of the day and ended up winning $250.00 for the outing, not to mention another $40 in food comps.

03/16/2003 - Connie stayed home while I went to the "M" and tried to hit a jackpot hand. No luck at that but ended up $68 up. Came home and made a a Contessa Chinese stir fry for dinner, watched TV and went to bed.
03/14/2010 - Today we met Christina and her dat at the Conservatory of Flowers at the Bellagio to see their Spring exhibit before heading over to see the new 7.5 billion dollar City Center complex. As usual the display at the conservatory was very well done and filled with beautiful spring flowers.

We then hopped on the tram and headed to the City Center.  About all I can say is awesome.  Without a doubt some of the most unique architecture I have ever seen. The interior designs, artworks, and sculptures are as beautiful as the outside.  We spent several hours walking around both the inside and outside taking pictures and enjoying the sites. I can't wait to so back for another visit and get some more pictures. There were also several restaurants that looked like they might be worth checking out.

03/13/2010 - Because Christina and her dad were supposed to come over for cocktails in the late afternoon before we went out to dinner, I decided to head to the "M".and play in the morning Texas Holdem tournamnent. Well guess what? I came in 2nd, making $410. When I got home I made some hors d-orderves of vermont chedder cheese, guacamole, salsa, sliced apples, and assorted crackers that we enjoyed over a couple of bottles of wine with Christina and Jim.

After showing them around the "M" we got into the private elevator to Veloce Cebo's, where we had dinner reservations. They loved the window table and the beautiful night view of the "Strip" and most of Las Vegas valley. Dinner was outstanding as usual. We all shared a Sea Scallop appetizer that was absolutely delicious.Christina and I shared the Rack of Lamb, while Connie and Jim both had the Filet Migon topped with blue cheese. None of us had any room left for desert and decided to pass. After dinner we all played a little slots. I ended up being the only winner; a whole $7.00. It was a lovely ending to what was already a good day.

03/12/2010 - My nephews wife (Christina) and her father are arriving today for a weeks stay. Her dad owns a vacation home here in northwest Las Vegas. They are coming over tomorrow for afternoon tea (wine) before we head out to dinner. We've made reservations at Veloce Cebo's on the 16th floor. Spent the morning vacuuming and cleaning before heading to the library and the "M".

03/11/2010 - Spent the morning "reorganizing" my computer desk and the furniture in the den. It's amazing how many wires there is for the "stuff" I have connected to my computer. It took forever to get everything plugged back together. The good news was that everything worked fine. We then headed to the Southpoint where we enjoyed their lunch buffet and saw the movie, Brooklyn's Finest. Click the title to read out review. After the movie we stopped at the "M" and played for a while before coming home. Had fluff-a-nutters (peanut butter and marshmallow) sandwiches for dinner and watched a few TV show before retiring for the evening.

03/10/2010 - Other than our normal routine, In addition to doing some cleanup and maintenance on my Travel Diary Blog, I spent the last three days creating and adding several new travel pages. I added pages for trips to Kingman, Arizona and the London Bridge in Havasu, Arizona. I also added pages for trips to the Boulder Dam Motel in Boulder City, Nevada and the Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada. Click on a title and check them out.

03/08/2010 - Went to the garage I've been using for some projects with Marc and started clearing our stuff out as his friend is going to need the space. Will need to rearrange the den in order to store some of the "stuff".  Connie's not happy.  Says I have too much "stuff." Doesn't she know you can never have too much "stuff."
03/05/2010 - I made breakfast. bacon, onion, pepper, and cheese omelets with English muffins. Went to the "M" for their anniversary celebration.  Got a nice free sweatshirt along with 2 glasses of champagne and cake.  The cake was delicious. I popped some hot snacks into the oven for dinner, watched TV and went to bed.

03/04/2010 - Normal morning stuff. Watched "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" over a lunch of light snacks before heading to the "M". Both won a little money before coming home where we popped a pizza into the oven for dinner and watched TV.

03/03/2010 - Again it was quite windy even though the sun was shining brightly. However it only got up to the low 60's. I did a little more work on some of the pictures that I took the other day while out running some errands and posted two of them on my Photo Gallery Blog. Click here to check out these latest two posts Ken's Photo Gallery  Went over to the "M" and had lunch at the VIG Deli. Both had a pretty go day gambling after lunch; Connie won $50 on slots and I won $60 playing poker.

03/02/2010 - Well I guess it's that time of year we all dread.  TAXES.  I installed my TurboTax program and started working on my Federal Taxes. I just find it amazing that I have had to pay taxes every year but one since I retired from the Shipyard. Having gotten about 3/4 of the way through this process, it looks like I might fair a little better this year. So far I only owe the IRS $644.00.  My sister Bonnie returned my call of the other day and we talked for nearly an hour. Seems like they had gone away for a little vacation over the same period we were in Laughlin. Having enough of this for one day, we showered and dressed and headed to the "M" for another 2-1 lunch buffet and a little "play".  Connie won $40 and I lost $32. Another positive day.

03/01/2010 - It seems like we just started the new year a few weeks ago and here it is March already.  Here in Nevada, the first of March signals the start of spring. Want proof?  Here are a few pictures I went out and took this morning within a few blocks of where we live.
By the time I got back it was already up to 65 degrees.  To get some exercise, I went out to the pool and did some more volunteer raking and spring cleanup. I then put together a collage of the pictures I took of Grapevine Canyon on our return from Laughlin last week and posted it on my Travelogue Blog.  Click here to view, Grapevine Canyon.  I then updated the map of our travels that I have posted on the opening page of that site, Map of our Travels.  Before I knew it, it was time for lunch already. In between reading her book, Connie spent the morning making breakfast, changing the bed, doing wash, and some ironing. By noon she said that she was tired and we decided to stay home for the day and watch movies and catch up on some of the shows that we had recorded on our DVR player.  Here is another picture of Mt Charleston that I took when I was at the library this morning.  With all the snow they've had this year, there should be snow on the summit until mid June.
